Athletes of the week Brandon Nieva and Mitchell Triolo

George Brown Baseball hit the field this past weekend against Fanshawe at home in the first regular-season home doubleheader this year. The Huskies performed extremely well taking both games off the Falcons with an 8-2 win in Game 1 and a 10-4 win in Game 2.

Brandon Nieva (Baseball)

2nd-year 3rd baseman Brandon Nieva had himself a day to remember as he scored seven of the team's 18 runs in the doubleheader, including a 3-run home run in the 3rd inning of Game 1 to push the lead to 6-0. Nieva has been hot at the plate this season hitting .462 (10th in OCAA hitting percentage) with two home runs and eight RBI's. "Nieva has been an anchor on the leftside of the infield for us," says Coach AJ Wideman as Nieva has tallied 13 assists on the season and 2 putouts.

Mitchell Triolo (Baseball)

US transfer Mitchell Triolo had the bat going this weekend, as the short stop went 5-7 at the plate including an impressive 4-4 performance in Game 1 which included an RBI and a stolen base in the same game. Triolo currently sits tied for 3rd in hitting percentage across the OCAA with .500 batting average. Triolo has also had himself a good start defensively, totaling 7 assists and 6 put outs. "Triolo's time with the National team shows every time he steps on the field," says Coach AJ Wideman.
