George Brown soccer played host to Humber on Senior's Night Friday night in the Huskies 2018 season home finale.
The men's team (4-1-4, 2nd central) suffered their first defeat of the season in a 3-1 loss to Humber, who avenged an earlier defeat at the hands of the Huskies. Humber earned a penalty kick less than six minutes into the game, and Federico Leal converted to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Leal found the back of the net for the second time in the 38th minute to double the lead 45 minutes in.
The Huskies got right back into things early in the second half as Matthew DaSilva's pretty finish cut the lead to one, but the visitors would answer shortly thereafter to put things out of reach. The final score read 3-1 Hawks.
George Brown is set to host the 2018 OCAA Men's Soccer Championship from Thursday, October 25 to Saturday, October 27 at Esther Shiner, and will play in the quarter-finals at 3:00pm on Thursday.
The women's team (2-5-2, 4th central) wrapped up their home slate with a competitive game against the undefeated Hawks. A back-and-forth opening half saw George Brown trailing 2-0 at the half, and Humber would tack on a pair of early goals in the second to put things out of reach. It was a promising performance for the Huskies as they gear up for next weekends crossover game, playing the best team in the province to a much more competitive game than they had just a few weeks ago.
Francesca Girdardo led the way for a defensive unit that again produced a solid outing, while Syd Greenberg made a few solid aggressive plays from the goaltender position.
It appears that George Brown will visit Niagara next weekend with a spot in the OCAA Championship on the line.
