Three huskies players wait for serve with hands on knees

In game two of four of the Huskies' annual Super Game Day on Saturday, the George Brown Men's Volleyball team took on the #1 team in the East Division in the Durham Lords. Boasting matching 4-0 records to start the season, the game would hand one team their first loss of the year. Unfortunately, that loss came for the home squad.

While the Huskies posted more kills than the Lords in three of four sets, the visitors' efficiency was a difference maker in the end, recording only 17 errors to George Brown's 29. Durham would also be a big presence at the net, recording 28 blocks on the evening.

The Lords got out to an early lead taking the first two sets 20-25 and 17-25, but the Huskies dug deep in the third coming up with a commanding 25-16 set win. The comeback would end there however, with the Lords closing out the fourth set 18-25.

The game was typical of neither team's usual intensity and pace. "We're pretty disappointed with the result", said Head Coach Garrett May after the game. "Neither team it seemed played that well and both at times struggled with motivation and energy. When that's the case the game can go either way. We'll need to bring better energy moving forward to compete with other talented teams."

Yuseph Jackman and Vivek Mathimakki led the way for the Huskies on the scoreboard with 13 and 14 points respectively, while rookie Grayson Engelman continued to command the Huskies' offence series with 27 assists.

George Brown will now regroup and head East to face the Fleming Knights on Wednesday, November 13th. The Knights (3-2) are riding a 3-game win streak which the Huskies will look to snap on the road. Scheduled start is 8pm.
