In her first year as a Husky, point guard Zae Sellers was nothing short of spectacular. Sellers was rewarded for her standout season on Wednesday night at the OCAA Women's Basketball Awards Banquet, named an OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Star.
A leader from the day she arrived, Sellers was instrumental in George Brown's 14-3 regular season record and an equally crucial cog on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Sellers was Ontario's best shooter from beyond the arc, hitting a scorching 42.6% of her three-point attempts. She averaged 14.8 points, and finished in the OCAA's top ten in steals with 60 (fourth), assists with 84 (eighth), and free-throw percentage at 74.6% (ninth). Her play on the defensive side of the ball was a catalyst for a Huskies team that forced the second most turnovers in Ontario, and the lethally effective full-court press was largely thanks to Sellers contributions.
"Zae has been the consummate leader this year. Besides her terrific play on the court where she was the East's third leading scorer, 2nd in assists, 1st in steals and the OCAA 3 point percentage leader, she was the anchor of a team that finished second in the East with a 14-3 record," said head coach Warren Williams. "She is well deserving of an honour that recognizes her fantastic season."
