The George Brown Huskies women's basketball team ended the season on a high note walking through the Georgian Grizzlies 88-36 at Casa Loma Athletic Centre on Friday night.
Notable Stats: Prior to the game, the Huskies honoured graduating point guard Zae Sellers and she did not disappoint in her final regular-season game with George Brown. She recorded a career-high 31 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals on the night.
Being a Husky the past two years holds a special place in Zae's heart.
"It means everything to be a Husky. This is really my second family, I don't know how life is going to be after I leave Canada, but it's been everything. I've learned a lot being here both academically and athletically," Zae explained. "I have been pushed off the court in terms of leadership skills in the classroom and just overall as a person."
Head coach Warren Williams knows how important the point guard has been on and off the court for the program.
"Her big thing is about creating a legacy. She really continued the tradition that we started here and she has done a great job promoting a standard of excellence," Warren stated. "She has so many great things ahead of her and this is just the start of her path. I am just proud to be a part of her journey."
How It Happened: The Huskies got off to an incredible start outscoring the Grizzlies 21-8 in the opening quarter. They did not take their foot off the gas pedal as George Brown led 41-15 at halftime. The home team did not look back the rest of the way.
George Brown improved their record to 13-3, which puts them in second place in the East. Despite their impressive record, the Huskies understand they still need to improve on a few things heading into playoffs.
"Honestly it is not about maintaining, it's about picking it up. We are a good team, but we can pick it up and go harder," Zae said. "It's about reps and what we are supposed to do every day. It's nothing special or extraordinary, we just need to keep going and go harder."
Coach Williams believes the team needs to continue what they have been doing this season.
"We're just about being the best that we can be. We talk all the time about playing hard, playing smart and playing together. We just want to do that to the best of our abilities. We feel if we do those things, we will be fine."
Up Next: The Huskies will host a first-round crossover playoff game on Saturday, February 29th. Stay tuned to find out George Brown's opponent and time.
