Women's Basketball fell just short versus the Algonquin College Thunder in the semester finale. In a tight contest between the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the East Division, the Thunder squeaked out on top.

Without the services of starting guard Rachel Steer due to injury, fifth-year guard Zae Sellers shouldered most of the point guard load for the evening playing all 40 minutes of the contest. The first quarter was back and forth, both teams looking a little shaky to start the game. The Huskies found themselves down a pair at the end of the first, behind 13-15.

The second quarter saw the tables turn, with George Brown going into half time with a two point lead of their own, up 29-27.

After a longer than usual halftime break due to an equipment malfunction in the gym, the Thunder did not waste any time in turning the pressure up. The Huskies struggled to connect on open jumpers and points in the paint, which proved to be the big difference maker as Algonquin outscored the visiting team 26-18 in the frame and went into the fourth up 53-47.

George Brown chipped away, closing the gap to four with under two minutes to go, but that is as close as they would get. Sellers (22 points) and Ciara Findlayter-Stephenson (14 points) both played complete games, while Ottawa-native Victoria Lawrence (10 points) would foul out for the Huskies in the dying minutes after playing 38 minutes herself.

Neither team shot particularly well on the evening, with the Huskies connecting on only 33% of their shots to Algonquin's 39%. But that proved just enough to be the difference in the game, as George Brown would fall by a final score of 67-61 to close out the first semester.

The Huskies will resume the regular season on Friday January 10, 2020 vs Centennial College at the Casa Loma Athletic Centre. Tip-off scheduled for 6pm.
