The George Brown women's volleyball team is pleased to announce the addition of outside hitter Jessica Barrios for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
Barrios joins the program with an already strong relationship with head coach Daphne Choi, as she has competed for the Huskies second-year coach extensively over previous summers with Toronto United Volleyball.
"I'm very excited to play for Daphne, we have a great relationship and have known each other for a long time," said Barrios. "I'm used to playing for her in 9-man Chinese volleyball throughout the summer. Getting to know my teammates and into off-season training is something I'm really looking forward to, and I think I can make an impact next year."
The Mississauga native played her club ball with both the Etobicoke Titans and Mississauga Pakmen, and heads to George Brown after completing a four-year degree at Brock University. She is enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program.
"Jessica brings a veteran presence to the team," said manager of athletics Melanie Gerin-Lajoie. "She's a focused player with a strong work ethic and we're hoping that will make an immediate impact."
Barrios was considering several programs this summer; her decision to become a Husky came down to her relationship with Choi, the ECE program and the opportunity she felt she'd have with the Huskies. The athletic outside hitter will certainly have every chance to make a difference in her first season at George Brown.
