Matchup George Brown @ Seneca
Date Wednesday, January 23
Time Women 6:00 p.m. I Men 8:00 p.m.
Location Seneca College
George Brown volleyball hits the road tonight to pay the Seneca Sting their first and only visit of the season.
The women's team (5-8, 6th east) have won three of their past four matches and look much improved in early 2019. They opened the semester with consecutive wins over Algonquin and La Cite, and have positioned themselves well to play in an OCAA crossover game.
Beatriz Vilches and Tiana Samuel are one of the strongest one-two combinations in Ontario, a pair of players who seem to do good things everytime they're on the floor. They have combined to average six points per set and tallied a total of 220 points on the season, forming a scary offensive punch. The pair has been equally impactful on the defensive side of the ball, among the team leaders in blocks and digs and consistent difference makers at the net.
The women defeated Seneca in straight sets earlier this season and the Sting head into Wednesday night with a record of 3-10.
The men's team (7-6, 6th east) is looking to get back in the win column. After winning four straight to close 2018 and open 2019, the Huskies have dropped a pair as they battle to host a crossover matchup come playoff time.
Vivek Mathimakki continues to build on a strong player of the year candidacy, as he ranks first in many major offensive categories, including total attacks (442) and points (204) while ranking third in kills (163), ninth in blocks (31) and ninth in points per set (3.7). His ascension into one of the provinces best players has been incredible to watch, and on several occasions this season he has swung the momentum of a game on his own.
Seneca took the first matchup 3-1 and head into the night with a record of 9-4.
