On the eve of the CCAA Badminton National Championship, George Brown badminton has six graduating athletes that have each made varying degrees of impact over an incredibly successful stretch for the program.
Headlining the group of graduates is Ace Zeng, who over the past two years has established himself among the best male players in the country. A native of China, Zeng stormed onto the scene in 2017-18, leading the men's team to a Provincial Title (the first of two consecutive) while being named the OCAA Male Badminton Player of the Year and a CCAA All-Canadian. Zeng also took home a CCAA National Men's Singles Silver Medal, OCAA Provincial Men's Singles Gold Medal and earned an OCAA All-Star nod. Again this season he has been named an OCAA All-Star and earned Silver at the Provincial Championship; he will look to further extend his incredible legacy this week at Dalhousie.
Mike Ra, a Toronto native, has spent three years with the program and made an indelible impact. The Mixed Doubles specialist was a major contributor to both of the past two Men's Provincial Titles, taking home Gold and Silver respectively at the Provincial Championship in Mixed Doubles play, earning an OCAA All-Star nod in 2017-18, and qualifying for consecutive National Championship appearances - last year he took home a National Bronze in Mixed Doubles play, and he will look to build on the performance this season with partner Angeline Alviar.
Alex Chao is another three-year Husky who has made a lasting impact. The Ottawa native was an OCAA All-Star in two of his three seasons, an OCAA Provincial Men's Doubles Bronze Medallist in 2017-18 and earned his spot at this year's National Championship with a Silver Medal with partner Eric Kern at Provincials. Kern is another graduating Husky - after spending four seasons with the Georgian Grizzlies, he arrived at George Brown for his final season of eligibility and has excelled with the program, teaming up with Chao to form an impressive Men's Doubles duo.
Rounding out the group of graduating athletes are Musong Seo and John Lee, natives of Korea and Taiwan who have spent two and one years with the program respectively and made impacts both on and off the court.
