George Brown Women's Basketball is excited to announce the addition Jemma Codinera to the upcoming 2026-27 roster.
Codinera, a 5'6 point guard, hails from Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School in Ajax, ON where she was the recipient of several basketball awards, including a student-athlete of the year award. The honor roll student looks forward to continuing her basketball career in the Huskies blue and white while pursuing her top academic program choice.
"I decided to come to George Brown because as soon as I toured the campus and my program, I knew it was the right fit for me", commented the incoming freshman. "I really loved the Video Design & Production program, and after getting a tour of the basketball facilities and meeting some of players from the team, I got even more excited. Everyone I met was so kind, welcoming, and supportive, and it already felt like a community I wanted to be a part of. I truly believe George Brown is where I'll be the happiest and where I can grow both academically and as a basketball player."
Codinera also played at various competitive levels outside of Notre Dame including the Juel Prep league with the IEM Spartans, JUEL and OSBA. Which is where she caught the attention of Huskies Head Coach Chante Clarke.
"From the moment I watched Jemma play, her dynamic playmaking ability and court vision stood out immediately", said Clarke. "It was clear she possesses the pace and basketball IQ required to compete at this level. Her elite work ethic and natural leadership are going to set her apart early, which is exactly the type of person and competitor we want representing our program".
With the graduation of 5-year veteran point guard Jacelyn Valencia, the newest Huskies recruit knows she has big shoes to fill but is up for the challenge and looking forward to everything that comes with it.
"I'm looking forward to playing with the team, improving my skills, and competing at the next level. I'm also excited to build strong friendships with my teammates, make unforgettable memories, and learn from both my coaches and teammates", said Codinera. "But most of all, I'm excited to be part of a team that pushes each other to improve while having fun and representing the Huskies with pride."
Clarke is also confident in Codinera's ability to pick up the pace of the collegiate game sooner rather than later. "Entering the league as a rookie point guard is always a challenge, but Jemma should find her footing quickly enough given her ability to break down defenses, create in transition, and play with a poise that forces opponents to adapt to her speed.", she notes.
