Women's Indoor Soccer

George Brown played host to the annual Huskies Indoor Soccer Invitational Tournament at the Ontario Soccer Centre on Thursday, and the home side did not disappoint in what was a dominant pair of performances. Both the women's and men's teams took home the tournament title, with the Huskies combining to go 9-0-1 while outscoring the opposition 41-3 on the day.

The women's team put together a particularly memorable run, led by Effie Takas, Natalie Mangos, Kayla Marziliano and Farrah Sheikh. The Huskies opened round-robin play with an 11-0 win, and that victory set the tone for the rest of the tournament. George Brown outscored St. Lawrence (Brockville), Lakehead and Georgian 19-0 in round robin play before taking out Sault and an always tough Fanshawe side in the finals to claim the championship.

"We're all very happy, it's a different feeling for us," said fifth-year Husky Farrah Sheikh. "We stuck to (head coach) Johnny Williams game plan, and it paid off. Some really good talent has come in over the past couple years, and this season we have a great mix of old and young players. We have high expectations this season and this is a great start."

Marziliano was particularly dominant, netting a tournament-high ten goals. The Huskies outscored opponents by a margin of 22-0, not allowing a goal all day and on the whole putting together an incredible five-game run.

After a 2-2 draw to open their day, the men's team ran off four straight wins to claim their second consecutive tournament win. Osman Hussein, Jesse Oliver, and Shaquille Agard all came up big throughout, and George Brown controlled possession for the lion's share of each of their games.

After soundly defeating Sault 7-0 to advance to the championship game, the Huskies took out a battle-tested Fanshawe team 2-0 to capture the title.

George Brown outscored opponents 19-3, and are clearly set up to be a provincial powerhouse.

This marks the men's team's second consecutive tournament win, having taken home the Redeemer Cup a week ago. The Huskies are the reigning indoor soccer provincial champions.
