The Huskies women’s soccer team made noise in Dave Kelly’s first season as head coach. They qualified for the playoffs with a 4-5-1 record and just fell short in upsetting the Centennial Colts in the first round in penalty kicks.
The team opens their campaign on the first official day of the OCAA season on the road against the Loyalist Lancers.
Coach’s Thoughts
After an entire season as head coach, Kelly is confident that a blend of returning players and new recruits will help the team build on last year's performance.
“Last year, we set the expectations for the program ahead and recruited some key components for this season,” Kelly explained. “Regarding expectations, we’re here to set more program records. Last season, we recorded the biggest victory in program history. This year, we’re aiming for another playoff season, at a minimum, the best regular season record in program history, and to get to the OCAA final four to see where that takes us.”
Returning Players
Ashley Altamirano, Midfielder
She was the perfect addition to the Huskies this past season. During the outdoor season, the midfielder dictated the game's tempo while showcasing remarkable offensive and defensive skills. She recorded two goals and three assists while starting in nine matches. She was nominated for the Huskies Female of the Year last season.
Annia Pavli, Midfielder
Pavli was one of the standout student-athletes for the women’s soccer team last season and is ready for the next step. She started all 10 matches last season and ranked third on the team with five goals and 14 shots.
Ashley MacDonald, Midfielder
She helped solidify the middle of the field in the second half of the season. She played in five matches and recorded a goal during the outdoor campaign. Keep an eye on MacDonald this upcoming season.
