The George Brown Huskies indoor soccer teams are off to the OCAA Provincial Championships from March 12-13 in Ancaster, Ont. The men are looking to defend their crown, while the women are hoping to improve on last year's results.
The men are the defending champions and have looked like it in 2020. At Regionals, the Huskies walked through the competition going undefeated, 4-0, while outscoring their opponents 15-2 in the process.
George Brown has been dominant this season only dropping two of 27 matches so far. They are pencilled in Pool B with Sheridan College, UTM and St. Clair College.
If the Huskies defend their title successfully, it will mark the third Provincial Championship in the last four years for the men.
The women, on the other hand, are coming off a great showing at Regionals. They won two of their three matches, both of which were shutout victories to advance to Provincials. The biggest strength for George Brown this season has been their defence. They have surrendered more than two goals in only three of 19 matches.
The Huskies are in Pool B with St. Clair College, Fanshawe College and UTM. George Brown will rely on their defence to slow down the high-power offences in their group. Goalkeeper Sydney Greenberg will be a crucial piece for the team during round-robin play. Offensively the Huskies score by committee and will need players like Bianca Oriani, Kristen Stellino and Cynthia Pellegrino to step up.
Last year the women fell just short of advancing to the semi-finals.
Both teams will play three round-robin matches on Thursday with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the semi-finals the following day.
