Ahmed Youssef, a second year player for the varsity volleyball team has made great strides for himself and his team this season. He takes pride in every area of his life to meet his high standards.
Enrolled in the Bachelors Construction Management program. balancing school and sports can be tough. However he uses his passion as a tell all to his successes. Applying himself within his trade mirrors his attitude towards the court and the game he has so much pride for.
This season has seen improvement for the middle hitter. Compared to last season where he was a rookie, Youssef has begun applying himself in different ways on the court. Being a starter he has learned how to communicate with the team and helps boost up energy.
From nervousness to confidence, Ahmed has grown significantly from his first year rookie status. In hopes to share his experiences with the newer players, he wants to make a difference in the rookie's varsity careers by giving the helping hand he was given at the start of his time with the Huskies.
"I'm trying to motivate the younger players, reminding them that they have a lot of potential and trying to stay focused," Youssef said. "I know how it is to be a rookie and I want to make sure I'm delivering messages the best way possible and to try to get them comfortable to become the best version of themselves."
The biggest change for Youssef is his personal standards set for himself. Focusing on his own game tapes and watching his mistakes and triumphs has proven to be a great way to be mentally and grow as an athlete.
With two more years at George Brown for his Bachelor program, Youssef intends on helping the program change for the better. Starting from his own successes, Youssef wants the whole team to and compete for an OCAA medal.
"My motivation for winning is so the program can be better next year and the year after and for every one after," said Youssef as he hopes to improve as a team for upcoming seasons.
Never backing down from a challenge, Youssef enjoys the mental toughness of the game. He finds he gets an edge over opponents incorporating yoga and breathing/ meditating techniques both on and off the court.
Youssef is working on improving himself all the time in order to represent the Huskies to the best of his abilities. And with two season left in the blue and white, he is taking it one step at a time to compete at a level he know he can excel at.
