Two very different games on Wednesday night ended with the same result, as George Brown basketball earned a pair of wins against the visiting Durham Lords.

The women's team improved to 7-1 and grabbed their fifth straight victory thanks to some incredibly clutch play down the stretch in a down-to-the-wire 73-71 decision.

A game that was neck and neck for 40 minutes, Huskies veteran Tianna Sullivan made the game-deciding play with just over 10 seconds remaining. Trailing by one and with possession, Kiyann Grimaldo missed a mid-range jumper with the clock ticking. Sullivan outmuscled two Lords defenders to grab her fourteenth and biggest rebound of the night, and made no mistake on the finish. George Brown would defend the ensuing inbound pass expertly to ensure the narrow victory. 

"I got in position, and knew I had to get it up quickly after I grabbed the board," said Sullivan. "It went in, and we came up with a big win."

She finished her night with a 20 point, 14 rebound double-double to lead the way, while Kiyann Grimaldo had herself a solid two-way game finishing with 10 points, four boards and three steals. Sullivan also led the team in assists with seven, a monster performance.

With the win, the Huskies move into sole possession of first place in the east.

The men's team is now 8-1 after putting on perhaps the defensive performance of the year in a 81-44 win.

George Brown allowed just four first quarter and 13 first half points in a complete shutdown of the Lords offence. The Huskies second-ranked defence lived up to its billing and then some - Durham shot a putrid 25.3% from the field, and under 18% in the opening 20 minutes.

Kingslee D'Silva led the Huskies offensively, finishing his night with 16 points on an efficient 7-for-12 shooting and seven boards. Kevon Guiseppi-Mascoe, Adam Costanzo, Chris Fields and Khadar Gaal all finished in double figures as well.

Star forward Adam Costanzo had a great performance cut short when he was ejected midway through the third quarter. After a hard foul on an attempted dunk, Durham's Shamar Lewis took his time hovering over Costanzo and both were ejected.

The Huskies are now in possession of top spot in the east.

Next up, the women's team will play host to Loyalist in their 2018 home this Saturday.
