Soccer player Sebastian Pulgarin has many more moves than you'll see him doing in a soccer game.
Pulgarin is in his first year of soccer at George Brown and takes to the field when he's not studying Business Administration.
But when he's not a centre midfielder, or working on school assignments, there's a better than average chance you might find Pulgarin polishing a few steps - in his repertoire of Spanish dances.
A native of Colombia, located in the northwest part of South America, Pulgarin came to Canada at the age of seven. There was a brief nine-month stop in-between - in Rhode Island - but Mississauga and Milton have been home for him the past 14 years.
Pulgarin speaks Spanish, a bit of Italian and is learning Portuguese. But his language on the dance floor is anything from the bachata to the merengue, the tango to the samba.
"It's true, I love dancing," he said. "Born in Colombia, dancing is in your blood."
Pulgarin is also a very good soccer player.
In addition to George Brown, he plays for a club team in Milton and last year took a trip back home to
"But I had to get serious and start thinking about a future – I wanted to do something with my life and get a good job," he said. "I enjoyed international business, which I studied in high school, and wanted to learn more so I signed up at George Brown.
After grades 9 to 11 at St. Joseph Secondary in Mississauga, Pulgarin attended Bishop Reding Secondary in Milton where he graduated. He played soccer at both, but the teams were not good enough to make it to the post-season round. Then, he took three years off before deciding to continue his education at George Brown. - DG
