George Brown men's volleyball closed their 2018 home slate on a high note Saturday afternoon, defeating Loyalist 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-18) to improve to 4-4 on the season.
After dropping the opening set, the home side earned a tight second set win and wouldn't look back as they cruised through the final pair of wins.
Vivek Mathimakki put on one heck of a performance, tallying a game-high 12 kills to go along with six blocks. The Huskies outside hitter continues to establish himself among the OCAA's elite, as his combination of athleticism and non-stop motor are big difference-makers.
Filling in for all-star Pradeep Bhogal after the first set, Tashi Shelling had himself a solid day at the setter position, not skipping a beat. Shelling finished with a game-high 25 assists along with four digs, doing a great job setting up a Huskies attack that had previously played together sparingly.
John Luu was excellent in support, totaling six kills and digs on the afternoon. Matthew Palkowski, Nick Baker-Bell and Perry Kumi all put together excellent afternoons.
The women's team fell to 2-6 on the season after a 3-0 (21-25, 22-25, 23-25) loss to the Lancers. Each of the three sets could have gone either way, George Brown was just unable to come through in crunch time.
The trio of Ashley Lau, Jessica Barrios and Tiana Samuel paced the Huskies offensively, combining for 20 kills on the afternoon on 51 attacks. Setter Jasmin Walia was great as well, finishing with 23 assists.
Next up for the Huskies is a visit to Durham on Thursday, November 29.
