SEASON PREVIEW: WOMEN’S SOCCER

SEASON PREVIEW: WOMEN’S SOCCER

The women's soccer team had a strong season in 2024, finishing fifth in the East Division with a 5-5 record before falling in a close 2-1 match to the Cambrian Shield in the first round of the playoffs. In 2025, a new era begins as long-time assistant coach Amie Lin steps in as head coach. It all gets started on the road against Seneca on Friday, September 5th.

Coach's Thoughts
Entering her first season, Lin is looking to build on past success and continue the program's upward momentum.

"It's mostly about the women understanding my style of coaching and their roles and responsibilities positionally. As a team, I think the goal is for us to come together and fight for a playoff spot," first-year head coach Lin explained.

Key Returning Players
Ashley MacDonald, Forward
Entering her third season, MacDonald is looking to build on a stellar 2024 campaign in which she set career highs across the board, most notably recording a team-high nine goals. She also netted back-to-back hat tricks during the season. She will be a centerpiece of the Huskies offence this year.

Iman Bhanji, Defender
For the past two seasons, Bhanji has been a consistent and reliable presence on the Huskies' backline. She has played in 19 games, starting 18 of them. Her veteran presence in the last line of defence will be a major asset this season. With Bhanji in the lineup, the team has reached the playoffs in each of the past two years.

Jennifer Seguin, Midfielder
Seguin returns as a key piece of the program. In 2021, she was stellar throughout the regular season, leading the team with four goals in six matches. She also collected multiple individual honours, including OCAA All-Star, Huskies Female Rookie of the Year, and Huskies Female Athlete of the Year.

Recruited Players
Megan Morgado
Jennifer Lopez
Bianca Granata

"I'm big on culture, hard work, discipline, and commitment, not just on the field but off it as well. We want to make sure all our student-athletes graduate, which has always been George Brown's number one goal. We also want to ensure the women are as competitive as possible so we can attract future recruits. Ultimately, we want to bring in individuals who choose George Brown for their program of study but also to play with the women's soccer team," the coach explained
