The department will highlight the nominees for the Huskies’ major awards, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Female Rookie of the Year, Male Rookie of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, and Male Athlete of the Year, during the week leading up to the 56th Annual George Brown Athletic Awards on Friday, March 27th at Young People’s Theatre. Here are the nominees for the 2025–26 Female Rookie of the Year.
Kaitlyn Mac-Fung, Volleyball
Coming off a knee injury, Mac-Fung established herself as one of the most reliable liberos in the league. She played in every match and was statistically one of the best liberos in the province, ranking fifth in the OCAA in total digs (176) and ninth in digs per set (3.14). She was a key reason the women’s volleyball team ranked sixth in the province in digs per set.
Emmanuela Nwokorie, Basketball
After missing the majority of the season due to injury, the first-year forward was dominant down the stretch for the Huskies, including back-to-back double-doubles in the team’s final two games. In the season finale, a must-win to host a qualifying playoff game, Nwokorie posted a game-high 18 points, adding 10 rebounds and a steal in a win over Durham. She finished second on the team in field goal percentage while averaging seven points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Elorie Stirling, Volleyball
It didn’t take long for Stirling to make a name for herself in the league, proving to be a handful for opposing teams. She averaged 2.6 points per set, including 1.71 kills, 0.60 blocks, and 0.26 service aces per set. She ranked first on the team in blocks per set and total points (149), while placing second in points per set and third in kills. She earned a spot on the OCAA East Division All-Rookie Team and also served as team captain.
