The George Brown Huskies season came to an end with an 82–73 loss to the Lambton Lions in the first round of the playoffs at home on Saturday (Feb. 21) afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Lions struck early, starting the game on an 11–5 run. The Huskies responded, thanks to Jayme Foreman, who led the squad on an 11–0 run of their own to take a five‑point lead late in the first quarter. The momentum then shifted back to the visitors as they scored 14 of the last 17 points in the frame to go ahead 25–19.
The roller‑coaster‑themed game continued with the Huskies outscoring the Lions 23–16 in the second quarter to head into halftime up 42–41.
Out of the locker room, despite George Brown shooting 61.5% from the field, they trailed 64–61 heading into the final quarter. In the opening three minutes, the Lions increased their lead to eight, 69–61, but the Huskies did not quit. In what could be her final collegiate game, Jaycelyn Valencia kick‑started a 10–2 run with back‑to‑back baskets to tie the game at 71. Unfortunately, with just three minutes left, George Brown committed turnovers on three straight possessions, and Lambton capitalized with a 9–0 run. It proved too much for the Huskies to overcome.
NOTABLE STATS: Foreman led the charge with a team‑high 18 points on 50% shooting, while adding four assists, three rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
Valencia filled the stat sheet with 12 points, three steals, three assists, three rebounds, and a block, while Dawkins chipped in with 12 points, three assists, two rebounds, a steal, and a block
