The George Brown Huskies announce that Men's Volleyball Head Coach Tyler Latu'ila is stepping down from his role. He played a vital role in growing the program over the last two seasons.
"I've had an incredible time head coaching this program. We've been through a lot together over the past two seasons, and I'm incredibly proud of the athletes, coaches, and support staff I've built relationships with along the way. This program will always hold a special place in my heart," he explained.
Latu'ila was hired in June 2024 and made a tremendous impact on the program. The team went 20–14 over two seasons and qualified for the playoffs in both campaigns. Under his guidance, the program made history as Yaroslav Svidritskiy earned East Division Player of the Year, CCAA All-Canadian, and OCAA League Scoring Champion honours.
"We're sad to see Tyler go after only two seasons, but it's for a great opportunity that I'm thrilled we were able to provide a stepping stone for. He continued to move our Huskies men's volleyball program forward in the right direction, and we couldn't have asked for anything more over his time here," said Manager of Athletics & Recreation Melanie Gerin-Lajoie.
He shared that he has learned a great deal about himself during his time with the program and hopes he has left a lasting impact.
"This experience has given me a newfound gratitude for my former coaches who always gave their best, especially during tough times. I've also gained a deeper sense of self‑compassion for my time as an athlete. My passion for this game is stronger than ever, and I hope that feeling is shared with everyone who has been a part of our team," he said.
Latu'ila will continue his work in the sport as the Lead Performance Coach for Volleyball Nova Scotia. The George Brown Huskies thank Tyler for his fantastic contributions and wish him nothing but success in his next chapter.
The search for the next Head Coach of the Men's Volleyball program will begin soon, keep an eye out for our job posting announcement.
