The George Brown Huskies women's volleyball team is excited to announce the addition of Charlotte Ponsin ahead of the 2026–2027 season.
"While we're always so proud of seeing our student-athletes graduate from George Brown to pursue their career goals, it does leave a gap of experience on the court. Charlotte directly fills that gap," said head coach Daphne Choi. "Having already competed at this level, and with an impressive career to this point, Charlotte helps us meet our long-term goals while filling our current need for fast and versatile athletes. Additionally, Charlotte expressed clear ambitions for her life after George Brown, and helping her navigate the various program offerings we have was extremely fulfilling for both of us. I'm really excited to have her join us on the court and to see her pursue her passions in the classroom."
The 5'9 outside hitter has experience competing in the CCAA over the past two seasons. She spent last season with the St. Clair Saints, where she was part of the squad that earned the OCAA silver medal, and previously played with St. Boniface in the MCAC during the 2024–2025 campaign. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native decided to transfer to Toronto to pursue her short and long-term aspirations.
"My initial reaction to officially becoming a George Brown Husky was excitement and gratitude. It was a proud moment for me because it reflects all the hard work and dedication I've put into both volleyball and academics," Ponsin said. "I chose to commit to George Brown Polytechnic because it offers me the chance to develop in the classroom and on the court. Since nursing has always been a career path I've been passionate about pursuing, the Practical Nursing program really stood out to me and aligned with my future goals. Combined with the competitive volleyball program and supportive team atmosphere, George Brown felt like the perfect fit for me academically and athletically."
The way Ponsin can impact the game on both sides of the ball is a major reason Coach Choi believes she is a perfect fit for the Huskies moving forward.
"Charlotte's playing style fits GB's style almost identically. She has great height and strength at the net as both a blocker and hitter, while also being defensively sound. More and more over the years, this program has become known for its gritty defence, and I see that in Charlotte's movement. I believe her passing and defensive abilities will allow us to run a more aggressive offence," Choi explained.
Ponsin will be enrolled in the Practical Nursing program and is ready to achieve her goals on and off the court.
"On the court, I want to contribute to the team's success, become a reliable and supportive teammate, and continue developing my skills as a player. In the classroom, I hope to succeed in the nursing program, gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience, and work toward building a successful career in healthcare," she said.
