The George Brown Huskies women’s volleyball team is excited to announce the addition of Alexandra Wilson ahead of the 2026–2027 season.
"The Huskies are always on the hunt for athletes who know what they want and not only are willing to put in the work to get there, but embrace new challenges with optimism and professionalism. Ally is that athlete,” said head coach Daphne Choi. She first approached me long before she joined just wanting to be in the gym and see if we worked well together. The following year, Ally let me know that she was committed to GB, to the point of moving away from home, pursuing her dream academic goals with our Honours Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene, and willing to play any role required of her on the team. This season she was in our gym regularly, and despite a little bit of time away from the sport, she showed that she is committed to both the physical and learning demands in the Huskies den.”
Wilson is ready to compete in the OCAA while also making the move to the big city.
“I felt a mix of nerves and excitement. Moving to a new school further from home is a big step, however I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to grow both academically as well as athletically and to be part of such a supportive, driven community. I did not think I would have a chance to play at the varsity level again, especially coming off a previous short season in 2023/24 due to an injury, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to grow as a Husky,” she explained.
The 5’11 middle spent two seasons with the Georgian Grizzlies between 2022 and 2024. During that time, she was dominant in the classroom, earning OCAA All-Academic honours both years. Seeing what the Huskies have to offer in both athletics and academics is a major reason why Wilson decided to commit to George Brown.
“I chose George Brown because it offers the program I was looking for along with strong opportunities for future growth. The pathways for advancement made it the perfect fit for both my academic and career goals. Not only will I get to enhance my education but also my skill on the court,” she explained. The Husky coaching staff led by Coach Choi is an amazing group with extensive knowledge that I cannot wait to absorb. The culture that Coach Choi has cultivated instantly drew me to the Huskies and I am so excited to be a part of it. I instantly felt welcomed by the team which only made me more certain that I was right where I should be.
The maturity and playing style Wilson brings to the middle is exactly what Choi believes the team needs heading into the 2026–2027 season.
“Ally is an experienced athlete who brings a balance of a positive and yet competitive vibe to the team. She is humble in her approach and shows a maturity beyond her years. Her calm yet assertive manner is the kind of athlete that will align well with our program's culture, always striving for excellence and understanding that adversity is only temporary towards long term goals. She is also a tall presence at the net, something the Huskies are increasingly able to find in our dedicated student-athletes,” Choi explained.
Wilson has a few goals in mind for September, both on the court and in the classroom.
“On the court, I’m focused on pushing myself to improve every day, compete at a high level and be a positive, supportive teammate who helps elevate those around me. I want to contribute to an already strong team culture, build relationships with my teammates as well as my coaches and strive for overall success,” Wilson explained. “In the classroom, my goal is to achieve honours standing while developing the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed in my career. I’m especially looking forward to exploring different opportunities within the field and continuing to grow professionally.”
