HUSKIES HOLD OFF ST. LAWRENCE

The George Brown Huskies kept their playoff hopes alive with a 62–57 victory over the St. Lawrence Surge on Sunday (Feb. 1) afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Five different Huskies recorded a basket to give the team a 17–14 lead after the opening 10 minutes. Although the Huskies held the Surge to 33% shooting from the field, they carried only a narrow 35–30 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was all George Brown. The offence went full steam ahead, with seven different players recording points as the Huskies outscored St. Lawrence 22–8 in the frame to take a 57–38 lead into the final quarter. The roles reversed late, as the Surge held the Huskies to just five points in the final 10 minutes, but the home side held on for the win.

NOTABLE STATS: Iffy Chiekwe recorded a team-high 13 points and three steals. Danny Lazic added eight points, five rebounds, and a block, while Kalyem Luburd-Mullings filled the stat sheet with four points, three assists, three steals, and two rebounds.

UP NEXT: With the win, the Huskies (4–11) kept their playoff hopes alive but will need wins in their final three games. Up first, they host the Centennial Colts (10–4) at home on Friday (Feb. 6) night. Game time is scheduled for 8pm.
