The George Brown Huskies dropped a close 79–74 decision to the Algonquin Wolves at home on Saturday (Nov. 22) night.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Wolves came out red hot in the first quarter, shooting 69% from the field, including four threes, to jump out to a 30–15 lead after 10 minutes.
The Huskies responded in the second quarter. Iffy Chiekwe led the charge with nine points to help the team outscore Algonquin 23–16 in the frame and cut the deficit to 46–38 at the half.
Defence was the theme in the third. The Huskies held the Wolves to just three baskets while outscoring them 22–8 to go up 60–54 with one quarter to go. This time around, the offence struggled, shooting 23.5% from the field compared to Algonquin's 61.5%, which ultimately led to the loss.
NOTABLE STATS: First-year guard Chris Simunovic was on fire, going 8-of-17 from the floor, including seven threes, to post a career-high 25 points while adding two steals and two rebounds.
Iffy Chiekwe chipped in with 14 points, three assists, three steals, and a block, while Jammar James tallied eight points, four rebounds, and two assists.
