George Brown women's basketball extended their win streak to six on Friday night, cruising to their most impressive victory of the young season over previously unbeaten Seneca, 74-54.
After a lackluster opening five minutes, point guard Aprille Deus led the charge on an 18-4 run that set the tone for the rest of the night. The fifth-year Husky finished with 11 points, six assists and a game-high seven steals. The Huskies high-pressure system fits Deus' uptempo style of play perfectly.
"We have a lot of athletic pieces, and everyone's pulling in the same direction," said Deus. "I feel as though we're the hungriest team in the league."
"She's our leader, she's our captain," said head coach Warren Williams. "It's not only what she does on the court, it's her on the sideline, change room - she's just a great all-around leader for our group."
First-year Husky Ashley McDonald had her best game of the season, shooting an efficient 6-for-8 from the field for 15 points and three steals. She continues to find her game and assert herself among the best young players in the league.
With the win, the Huskies now boast a dominant point differential of plus-139. It's still early, but George Brown is quickly establishing themselves as one of Ontario's elite teams.
The men dropped their first game of the season, falling to 7-1 after a 93-82 loss.
Alex Petronis had another incredible offensive night, filling up the scoresheet to the tune of 30 points on 11-for-24 shooting from the field. The 6'4" guard notched a double-double with 10 boards, and hit four from beyond the arc.
George Brown pushed the Sting late in the fourth, but were unable to trim the lead lower than four. It was a tough first half that doomed the previously unbeaten Huskies.
Dejazmatch James finished with 20 points and five rebounds, while Teshayn Gayle racked up 13 points and six helpers.
Next up, the Huskies will pay a visit to the Durham Lords on Tuesday, November 21. Women's game tips off at 6 p.m., men's game at 8 p.m. Follow @GBC_Huskies on Twitter for updates throughout.
