UPDATE: Despite going undefeated, George Brown men's basketball narrowly missed out on the Dawson Classic Championship game on Sunday.
After a 95-95 tie against the host Dawson Blues to open the weekend, the Huskies earned consecutive wins over Vanier, 69-67, and Outaouais 71-61.
Only the top two finishers qualified for the finals and George Brown's 2-0-1 record saw them just outside of that second spot, finishing third overall.

George Brown basketball is headed to Montreal this weekend for a pair of tournaments that will see the Huskies competing with many of Canada's elite. The men open the 41st annual Dawson Classic on Thursday night, while the women kick the inaugural Montmorency Invitational off on Friday.
The Dawson Classic includes the first, second, third and seventh-ranked programs in the country from 2017 – last year's Montmorency-Sheridan finals matchup was a preview of the national championship game. With the regular season fast approaching, the men's program has high expectations after finishing second in the province and qualifying for nationals in 2016/17.
Heading up the group of returnees are Matt Bukovec and Dejazmatch James, the team's third and fourth leading scorer's last year. Justin Bhangoo and Alex Petronis, a pair of former Dalhousie Tigers, lead the first-year Huskies for a group that boasts a lot of new talent.
The Huskies are placed in Pool C this weekend, crossing over to play each of the three Pool D teams in the round robin. Upon the round robin's completion, each team in Pool's C and D will be ranked one through six, with the top-ranked team advancing to Sunday's title game.

The women are appearing at the inaugural Montmorency Tournament, and are looking to build on the momentum from a strong second half of the 2016/17 season. Point guard Aprille Deus should be even better in her second year with the program, building on a season that saw her average 12.1 points, nearly five rebounds, and three assists. OCAA All-Star Tianna Sullivan also returns; she was among the provinces highest scoring wings last year, averaging just over 20 points a night.
Newcomer Merrissa Moore figures to play a crucial role this year, a 5'9" small forward who can stretch the floor and work inside.
Warren Williams heads into his second season at the helm of the program, and he is excited to get the year off on the right foot. "We really did a good job of setting the culture last year, letting the girls know how things are supposed to be done. We're looking to continue building on that."
