George Brown basketball continued what has been a perfect start to the OCAA's regular season on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Loyalist Lancers on the second half of a road back-to-back.
The women's team (3-0, 1st east) coasted to their third consecutive win to open the season, a 79-59 decision. OCAA All-Star Tianna Sullivan was unstoppable, pouring in a game-high 25 points on 11-for-14 shooting in just over 21 minutes. She was also a major presence on the defensive end, notching a season-high six steals.
Reigning George Brown Athlete of the Week Aprille Deus was her usual solid self, scoring 13 points, grabbing four rebounds and adding a pair of assists. Kiyann Grimaldo was excellent at the four, with 10 points and a team-high seven boards.
The Huskies shot 45.7% from the field and 36.8% from beyond the arc.
The men's team (4-0, 1st east) came back from a nine-point first-half deficit to earn a 77-69 win. Power forward Matt Bukovec paced the Huskies offensively, scoring 20 points and hitting four triples while grabbing eight rebounds in over 35 minutes of play. Point guard Teshayn Gayle came up big as well, scoring fifteen points while and forcing the Lancers into six turnovers.
Guard Dejazmatch James was solid again, scoring 17 points on 6-for-14 shooting and hitting a pair of triples.
George Brown shot a blistering 54.5% from beyond the arc, and outscored Loyalist 22-10 in the fourth quarter.
