Making his regular-season debut for George Brown men's basketball, Alex Petronis showed why his introduction to the program has been so highly anticipated with a 20-point outing in a dominant 107-63 win over La Cite Friday night.
"It's funny, he texted me yesterday and said it's Alex regular season time," said head coach Jonathan Smith. "We know what he's capable of and we've seen it in spurts during the preseason. When he's shooting the ball well it opens the court up for us, and that's exactly what happened tonight."
George Brown's attack was balanced, with four Huskies hitting double figures and every active player scoring at least three points. Swingman Adam Costanzo poured in an efficient 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting, while point guards Chris Fields and Teshayn Gayle combined for 23 points and seven helpers.
"All of our guys played extremely hard, it was great to get all thirteen guys into the game," added Smith. "Hopefully Algonquin plays a tough game tonight and we can use the extra rest to our advantage. Our depth is something we think we can use throughout the year."
George Brown shot 46.3% from the field, including eight converted three-pointers. The Huskies 29 assists are an indication of how well they moved the ball, which in turn helped the hosts outscore La Cite 61-23 in the second and third quarters combined.
The Huskies will next play host to Algonquin tomorrow afternoon, with the women's season opener getting underway at 1pm and the men at 3pm. Click
