OSHAWA - There will be some bad dreams, maybe even nightmares, for the George Brown Huskies men's basketball team that could ride on for a long time.
George Brown came to town, the first Ontario Colleges Athletic Association league game of 2014, likely sitting back on their record of 8-2, knowing they had beaten Durham twice in the past few weeks and the Huskies hadn't lost to the Lords since Feb. 23, 2011.
Maybe it was a bit of over-confidence, a bit of bad luck or the host Durham College team, with a 3-7 record and in 10
Either way, Durham upset George Brown, 82-73.
It was a win George Brown needed to stay pace with the better teams and, come playoff time, could make a huge difference in what team the Huskies meet in the cross-over with those in the West Division.
The game was back-and-forth, with the lead changing 13 times, until Durham rallied for a 28-16 edge in the final quarter to put this one away. George Brown also had trouble.
Lost in the final outcome was another brilliant show put on by Vadim Halimov, fully recovered from a sprained ankle.
Canada's top scoring College player, and gradually moving closer to the OCAA's all-time scoring title, fired 33 points. He was 14-of-30 from the floor, 3-of-5 from the bonus line and just 2-of-9 from three-point range.
Dejazmatch James also put out another stellar performance with a 17-point game. But after that, the scoring all but disappeared.
Durham dominated in free throws (20-10), had the edge in rebounding (45-37) and points off the bench (26-10). To the Huskies credit, George Brown won the battle of points off turnovers (19-14) and second chance points (17-2). - DG
