Gone but never forgotten.
Those four words will live on in the memories of many who knew, respected and loved the late Frankie "Gamz" Gyamfi.
Set for Friday, November 21 at George Brown's St. James Campus on King Street East, the College's Athletics and Recreation will have "A Night To Remember" Gyamfi - recognizing the former student athlete - prior to the tip-off of a regularly scheduled Ontario Colleges Athletic Association basketball league game with Centennial College
A point guard and key member of the Huskies Men's basketball team, Gyamfi lived an unselfish life always putting others ahead of him.
He was 24 years of age when he passed away at Toronto General Hospital in the early hours of June 21, 2014 after losing a battle with cancer.
But his memory lives on.
Whether it was working as a mentor with children and youth in one of Toronto's tough neighbourhoods or just pitching in to help his teammates on the basketball court, Gyamfi was the kind of individual everyone called a friend.
In the pre-game warm-up on November 21st, George Brown players will wear shirts honouring "Gamz". Just before game time, a moment of silence will take place. Those attending the game, and asked to make a donation to a fund set up in his name, will be given blue glow sticks. A special presentation, to be made to his mother, sister and family, will follow.
"He was a very quiet reserved young man who captured the hearts of many at George Brown," said Huskies head coach Jonathan Smith. "A good person and a physically strong player is how many of us will remember him."
Donations at the game, as well as at a Holiday Tournament taking place at George Brown from Dec. 18 to 21, will go towards a Frankie Gyamfi Scholarship Fund.
