OSHAWA – Some just refer to "Helder the Husky" as that oversized stuffed, fury and playful toy.
For one that can dance, entertain crowds and kick up a frenzy, despite keeping silent, the George Brown College mascot came out on top as the No. 1 mascot during an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association competition.
Organizers judged the winner based on audience applause and "Helder the Husky" had the edge over the Durham Lord from the host Durham College.
It was all part of men's and women's all-star games in basketball and volleyball along with various skills challenges.
And George Brown was represented in all categories.
In men's basketball, Vadim Halimov – Canada's Player of the Year – scored 22 points as the East defeated the West, 97-96. Yet, it wasn't Halimov that got the team game MVP award. That went to Ajhamo Clarke, from the host school, who finished with 12 points.
The women's all-star basketball game, again it was the East that won after a fourth quarter rally to finish up 72-66. George Brown veteran Aria Charles only managed two points in the game.
Game officials didn't keep individual statistics for either of the men's or women's all-star volleyball games.
In the men's game, again the West won with scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-11, 25-17, 15-12. George Brown's Richard Serote played for the East.
In various skills competitions, Niengue won the Serving Accuracy contest while Serote made the finals for the Passing Accuracy and Serving Accuracy competitions.
