Call it "All-Star Saturday" – and the George Brown Huskies will be there.
Basketball and Volleyball, men's and women's teams, cap the year with the annual all-star showcase of the best players in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association.
It's happening on Saturday, March 22 at Durham College in Oshawa.
Vadim Halimov, Canada's Player of the Year in men's basketball, will be on the East Division all-star hoops team while Akai Nettey tests his three-point shooting in a contest involving players from 19 schools. Dejazmatch James will be George Brown's rep in the Skills Challenge.
Aria Charles, Quichell Barriffe and Shan Wilson are the Huskies taking part in the women's all-star basketball showcase, Charles, a former two-time MVP, will be dressed for the East in the game. Barriffe is in the Three-Point Shootout while Wilson tackles the Skills Challenge.
On the volleyball front, Patricia Niengue, following a brilliant rookie season, will be the only George Brown player in the women's all-star game. Niengue will also take part in the Serving Challenge and Hardest Spike competitions. Brittney Gee will try her luck in the Passing Accuracy competition.
In men's volleyball, it all rests with Richard Serote, He'll be the only Husky in the all-star game as well as in the Hardest Spike, Passing Accuracy and Serving Challenge.
And "Husky" will also be in a competition involving College mascots.
Jonathan Smith, a former Coach of the Year in men's basketball, is the only George Brown coach involved in the all-star games. - DG
