Holiday Season and time to take a break.
Maybe so, but the George Brown Men's basketball team will have just enough time between Christmas and New Year's to play some more competitive hoops.
The East-West Holiday Series debuts Dec. 28 and 29 in London and hosted by Fanshawe College.
No trophies. No all-stars. No official league points.
It's an exhibition series, at the midway point of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association season, with six Colleges involved: George Brown, Seneca and Centennial from the East Division and Sheridan (Oakville), Fanshawe (London) and Humber from the West.
"I like the idea – very happy with it," said George Brown head coach Jonathan Smith, whose team enters the break with a 5-5 record after starting with three consecutive wins. "With this, we have an opportunity to prepare for the second half of the season and it gives us a chance to see teams from the West."
Teams will only play three games – all against opponents from the other Division. The event provides an opportunity for crossover competition, other than waiting for the Provincial playoffs.
Sheridan will host the event next year followed by Centennial, Humber, George Brown (in 2018) and Seneca. - DG
