Not sure where the word comes from, but it sounded good enough for George Brown men's basketball head coach to say his team suffered from "dribbilitis".

Sad symptoms they were as the Huskies were guilty of numerous miscues caused by turning over the basketball as the touring Fairmont State Falcons, from Fairmont, W. Va., defeated George Brown 106-74 in an exhibition game at the Alex Barbier gym.

"Dribbilitis – just dribbling the ball for no purpose, going nowhere and allowing (Fairmont) to take it away and score," said Smith, not pleased with Fairmont's 29-7 point advantage on turnovers.

"It happened far too many times for my satisfaction – and the players know it."

Smith had 14 players dressed, indicating that 10 stand a good chance of making the team that will tip off the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association opener on Oct. 22 when Seneca visits the St. James Campus gym. Of the 14 suited up, 11 scored points in the loss to Fairmont State.

"This was a great learning experience, a teaching point," added Smith, who said his players were frustrated with the loss knowing they can play better. "Our rebounding has improved, the play of the veterans has been strong, but the speed of the game got to our rookies and the young guys didn't handle the pressure too well."

Fairmont State, which plays in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division Two loop, took a 33-10 first quarter lead and went to the intermission break ahead 52-32. Fairmont State poured it on in the third quarter with a 38-17 edge while George Brown won the final quarter, 25-16.

"You don't win a (OCAA) championship now – that comes after the season," said Smith, whose Huskies were 15-5 in league play last season and lost in the playoffs.

"One month from now, I will be very excited to see how the guys play after learning so much from two NCAA schools that have polished programs, enjoy scholarships to attract students and spend a great deal of time practicing."

Ricardo Brown led George Brown scorers with 17 points while Akai Netty added 15 and Ted Johnson clicked for 11.

Fairmont State had the edge on three-point buckets, 9-6, and on points off the bench, 58-29. - DG
