Soon to be a graduate of Toronto's Silverthorn Collegiate, the 6-foot-2 shooting guard – who has lots of hustle and determination when on the basketball court – is counting down the days for his next basketball game.

We're talking about the one in a George Brown College uniform.

Munster, who will be 19 years old when May ends, has signed up for the Business Marketing Program at George Brown – and plans to pursue a Degree at university. But that's still a few years away.

For now, Munster has something to prove.

"I thought I would be highly recruited and it didn't happen," said Munster. "I have a chip on my shoulder and will go out and prove that I'm a good player and will work even harder to be an even better player."

George Brown men's basketball coach Jonathan Smith likes what he hears from his rookie, but the relationship between the two goes back a few years. Smith coached Munster at Silverthorn.

"(Munster) is going to surprise people – just wait," said Smith, whose Huskies squad finished 15-5 last year in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association and came within seconds of pulling off one of the biggest upsets in league history but fell short to Sheridan in the playoffs.

"He's deceptive in a positive way, been a pleasant surprise in the weight rooms and at workouts, has a great attitude and with a combination of confidence and skills will do very well."

Munster, who has played a variety of sports, said his father (who also played basketball) introduced him to the game at the age of six. As for Smith, Munster has high praise for the Huskies coach pointing to him as the reason for choosing George Brown.

"Coach Smith is up front, tells you the truth about things and can be a great motivator - things that' a young person appreciates and respects," said Munster, who averaged between 15 and 20 points a game in high school. -

Shooting and hustle have been strengths for Munster, but those who have watched him play say he also plays a strong defensive game. - DG
