In fact, it may be quite the contrary.
This tournament provides student athletes, not always in their league's showcase or on teams gobbling up championships, with an opportunity for a more relaxed and still competitive event.
"It gives them a chance to test their skills and in a College setting," said Jonathan Smith, who has compiled a 36-14 record, two trips to the provincial playoffs and chosen OCAA East Conference Coach of the Year in his short time as Head Coach of the Huskies Men's basketball team.
"It's great for them, we get a chance to scout players, too, and we're thrilled to have them at George Brown."
Later this month, from Dec. 18 to 21, George Brown will host another tournament – a 16-team invitational with gate receipts going to the Frankie Gyamfi Memorial Fund. Gyamfi was a George Brown student and member of the Huskies Men's basketball team. He died from cancer last summer.
Among the teams competing are St. Edmund Campion and Notre Dame, from Brampton, as well as H.B. Beal from London – teams that have a history of success at league, Regional and Provincial playoffs.
